Another aspect of Rakhi festival..
Everyone knows why Rakhi is celebrated. It is a beautiful festival that reminds us of the life long bond between siblings. Actually the festival like Rakhi as for as I know, exist only in India. Do you know why you festival Rakhi is really necessary?
As the age increased, the bound between the siblings are getting distant. We really need many festivals like this, where we can remember our siblings at least once a year without forgetting it.
But I recently learnt something about the festival of Rakhi, in some parts of India.. on the day of festival, husband and wife also tie Rakhi. I was surprised. Rakhi festival is a symbol of bound between brothers and sister. Why husband and wife Tie Rakhi? I thought this..
But the real purpose of Rakhi festival is to promise that I will protect you for the rest of your life.
Being a companion through life hardships applies to any relationship. Being companion and protector should be any relationship.
The festival of Rakhi is not only limited to blood relation. This is what lord Krishna tells us in Mahabharat.
One day lord Krishna comes to his sister subhadra’s house. Subhadra is very happy that her brother has come home. But Krishna accidentally, get hurt and blades. Then Subhadra frantically says..call the doctor..
Then Draupadi standing next to Subhadra.. tears her sari, and bandages Krishna’s wound. It can be considered as a kind of test given by lord Krishna to Subhadra. Lord Krishna also helped, at the time of Draupadi vastrapaharanam(disrobing) and protected draupadi’s honor.
This is great lesson that lord Krishna told the world, that you don’t need to be just blood relation to help in the time of troubles.
Don’t limit yourself to just the day of Rakhi, try to keep your bond for lifetime.
